Cycle Right Programme

Cork Bike Hire are proud to deliver the Cycle Right Stage 1 programme in primary schools. CYCLE RIGHT is the National Standard for Cycle Training.

The Cycle Right Stage 1 programme is tailored for primary school students, aiming to build confidence and competence in young cyclists. The programme includes

  • Theoretical & Rules of the Road instruction
  • Core bicycle and road skills training
  • On road trainer led cycles

Cycle Right is for 3rd to 6th class. Schools typically select one class group which participates in the programme annually. Should the school have multi classes then the visits would be biannually etc. The programme is eight hours in duration and Cork Bike Hire deliver it over 4 or 5 sessions depending on the size of the class. Each session is led by qualified instructors who ensure that students receive personalised attention and guidance. The initial sessions take place in the school classroom and court / yard area, with the final session on local roads where suitable.

What Schools are Saying About Us!

We have had the pleasure to work with Fiona and her team on the Cycle Right Training Programme with our Sixth Classes the last few years. It has been a hugely beneficial experience for all the children involved. We have seen first-hand the improvements in the children's cycling skills, confidence and road safety awareness. The instructors even took the time to tailor and cater for students that needed extra measures to master bike skills. This is a mark of their professionalism and attention to detail. We value this programme to promote exercise and enjoyment as it is a valuable life skill.

We have been lucky enough to participate in the cycling programme with 4th class children over the past few years. I was amazed at how much the children learned about road safety during the course. The children's confidence increased from the weekly cycling sessions, and the children's parents were very impressed by the programme. The course finishes with a cycling session on the road and it is wonderful to see the children's cycling skills and road safety awareness in action. Molaim Fiona agus Cork Bike Hire go hard na spéire!

In our school, the Cycle Right programme has been running for three years now. We have found this programme very helpful as we begin our journey as cyclists. Across the sessions, we learned about road safety, including how to manage crossroads and other junctions. We also learned some bike maintenance and how to use our bikes correctly while we cycle. The instructors have always been clear, kind, helpful and fun. We would highly recommend a visit from this team. We are now much better prepared for life on the road!
